Privacy Notice

This notice explains how I, Shyam Jayabal, collect and use personal data for The Digital Study Space, the online tutoring business I run as a sole trader in the United Kingdom. I handle it in line with the UK General Data Protection Regulation (UK GDPR). Last updated: 7 October 2026.

1. What I collect
I collect personal data when you book a free 20-minute intro call, book a lesson or send a message through the contact form. This includes your name, email address and phone number (if you give it), and your child's name, year group, subjects, exam board, and current and target grades, plus anything else you choose to tell me. Lessons are recorded, so I also hold lesson recordings. The website also collects technical data such as your IP address and browser information to keep it secure and working.

2. How I use your data
I use your data to provide your tutoring: to arrange lessons, send you lesson schedules and lesson notes, and keep you updated on your child's progress. I may also tell you about exam board changes or new subjects. The law lets me use your data in these ways because I need it to provide the lessons you've asked for (in legal terms, a contract), because some records must be kept by law (a legal obligation), and because keeping the website secure and telling you about changes to my tutoring are reasonable things for a tutoring business to do (legitimate interests).

3. Who I share it with
I don't sell your personal data or share it for marketing. The website, booking system and contact form run on Wix, which stores the details you enter. Lessons take place over a video call platform. Otherwise, I only share your data if the law requires it or you give your consent.

4. Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to access, correct or ask me to delete your personal data. You can also ask me to stop sending you updates about new subjects at any time. To make a request, or if you think your data has been handled wrongly, please get in touch through the form on the Contact page. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.

5. How long I keep it
I keep your personal data for as long as I need it to provide your tutoring and to meet any legal or contractual obligations. After your tutoring ends, I securely delete your data unless I'm required to keep it for statutory record-keeping.

6. Cookies
This website only uses essential cookies, which keep it secure and let the booking system and contact form work. I don't use advertising cookies. If I ever add cookies that aren't essential, such as Google Analytics, I'll ask for your consent first with a cookie banner. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, but booking may not work without them.
